Pair of Grapplers Land on All-MIAA List

Two members of the Trine University men's wrestling team have been named All-MIAA by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the conference has announced. Juniors Jett Boots and Joseph Langeman represent the Thunder by earning the award.

The pair of student-athletes become just the second and third members of Trine wrestling to earn All-MIAA status since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 2019.

Langeman finished the dual match portion of the MIAA season going 2-2 at the 133-pound weight class. The first of those wins came in the team's convincing win over Alma College where he helped set the tone with an early pin. Then against eventual team champion Adrian College he recorded another pin to keep Trine in the match early.

This past weekend Langeman earned the program's first ever individual championship as he worked his way through the bracket with a pair of wins, including a second victory against Tyler Davis of Adrian. Then in the championship bout he got revenge for his earlier loss to Olivet College's Stuart Donlan with a 3-0 decision.

Boots went 3-1 during the bulk of the MIAA season while competing at 141-pounds. He started the dual season with a major decision victory against Olivet, earning the team's lone points against the Comets. A second major decision came in the match against Alma and his third win came against Albion by decision.

Then at the MIAA Tournament he quickly followed Langeman by becoming the second wrestler in program history to be named individual champion. He picked up a quick pin in his first match before posting a tough 7-6 decision over Olivet's Dylan Phelps. Finally, in the championship bout he avenged his loss against Adrian's Tanner Smith from earlier in the week on the back of a 10-5 decision.
